搶在核三廠2號機於5月17日除役之前，立法院於5月13日以60票對51票通過《核管法》修正案。核能設施運轉執照最長40年的規定不變，但延役年限延長至20年，並放寬申請時限，經主管機關確認無安全顧慮後即可換發執照。
與現行法規相比，新法提供更多彈性。推動修法的藍白陣營強調，因台灣能源進口依賴及用電需求增加，希望藉此延長核電廠服役年限。
Changes to the Nuclear Regulation Act Passed: Nuclear Plants Can Extend Operations by 20 Years
Before the No. 2 reactor at the Third Nuclear Plant shuts down on May 17, the Legislative Yuan passed changes to the Nuclear Reactor Facilities Regulation Act on May 13 with a vote of 60 to 51. The rule that nuclear facility licenses last up to 40 years stays the same, but extensions can now be up to 20 years, and the application time is more flexible. Once the authorities confirm there are no safety issues, the license can be renewed.
