Sanae Takaichi Becomes Japan’s First Female Prime Minister, Continuing Abe’s Policy Path
The National Diet of Japan held a prime minister election on October 21. Liberal Democratic Party leader Sanae Takaichi was elected as Japan’s 104th prime minister, becoming the country’s first female leader in history. The 63-year-old Takaichi has more than 30 years of political experience and was long mentored by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. She supports constitutional reform, strengthening the Self-Defense Forces, and promoting the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” strategy.
She also advocates tax cuts, expanding public investment, and developing Japan’s technological independence. Takaichi emphasized peace in the Taiwan Strait, saying “a Taiwan crisis is a Japan crisis,” and vowed to deepen the U.S.–Japan alliance and regional security cooperation.
NVIDIA Gives Up Beitou Shilin Technology Park T17, T18 Sites, Report Says It May Move to Beitou
NVIDIA originally planned to build its headquarters at the T17 and T18 sites in Taipei’s Beitou Shilin Technology Park. However, the project was blocked because the Taipei City Government and Shin Kong Life Insurance could not reach an agreement. Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-Chuan said the city has offered several alternative sites, including T12, the Songnan area, and some undisclosed locations.
According to Nextapple News, NVIDIA has visited a “secret base” in Beitou. The land is owned by the city, has a more complete area, and costs less. Therefore, NVIDIA is leaning toward giving up the T17 and T18 sites and moving to the new Beitou location.

U.S. Plans Global Defense Guideline, Taiwan Expected to Join Cooperation Framework
The 24th U.S.–Taiwan Defense Industry Conference ended on October 21. Rupert Hammond-Chambers, president of the U.S.–Taiwan Business Council, said the U.S. government plans to introduce a new global guideline to speed up arms sales reviews and open technology cooperation, with Taiwan expected to be included.
This move will strengthen the U.S.–Taiwan joint research and improve arms delivery efficiency, placing Taiwan on the same level as Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom in defense cooperation. Hammond-Chambers said U.S. security assistance to Taiwan remains unchanged, focusing on strengthening Taiwan’s defense and asymmetric capabilities.

Lululemon Founder Blasts Company, Says It Has Lost Its Soul
Lululemon founder Chip Wilson placed a paid ad in The Wall Street Journal, criticizing the company’s strategy and saying it has “lost its soul.” He accused the board of turning the brand into another GAP, destroying its innovation and culture. Wilson also pointed out two “disastrous decisions” — spending 500 million dollars to acquire a fitness company and collaborating with Disney, which he said hurt the brand’s market value.
He claimed the current management sacrifices customer experience to please The Wall Street Journal and said he may push for a board overhaul. The company responded that Wilson left nearly ten years ago and that his comments are inaccurate and misleading.

U.K. Plans to Ban Energy Drinks for Under-16s, Doctor Warns They May “Make You Even More Tired”
The U.K. government is planning to ban the sale of energy drinks to people under 16, saying that high sugar and caffeine levels may harm teenagers’ health and learning. Pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Wang Lu-Ting said energy drinks can boost alertness for a short time, but they actually “borrow energy from the body,” making people feel even more tired afterward.
She reminded that teenagers should not consume more than 100 milligrams of caffeine per day, as excessive intake may cause anxiety, heart palpitations, and sleep problems. In Taiwan, regulations still focus on labeling and public education, without setting an age limit.
