Suspected African Swine Fever in Taichung! Black Soldier Flies Step In
Taichung City reported Taiwan’s first suspected case of African swine fever on October 18, alarming the livestock industry. The Ministry of Agriculture quickly ordered a five-day halt to slaughtering and meat auctions nationwide and banned the use of food waste for pig feed to stop the virus from spreading.
To quickly handle food waste and prevent the spread of disease, Chiayi County has deployed black soldier flies. These insects, known for breaking down food waste and organic matter, are called “the second most useful insect after bees” and now play a key role in epidemic prevention.
Taiwan Affairs Office Launches Facebook Page, Flooded With Comments
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council announced on October 22 the launch of its Facebook page. Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian said the page aims to strengthen communication on Taiwan-related news, explain policies, and promote cross-strait relations.

Work Smarter, Not Harder! Focus on Results That Matter
Doing too much at work doesn’t always get you noticed by your boss. Experts say the belief that capable workers should take on more tasks is a misconception, as overworking can easily lead to burnout and mistakes.
Instead of completing five average tasks, focusing on a few high-quality results brings more value. Doing work with excellence builds a reliable image and helps you stand out. To achieve this, focus on key tasks, pay attention to details, and keep improving your work quality.
Loneliness Becomes a Global Health Crisis, Over 870,000 Deaths Annually
The World Health Organization warns that loneliness has become a major global health issue, affecting about one in six people and causing over 870,000 deaths each year. Social isolation increases the risk of stroke, heart disease, and diabetes, and lonely individuals are twice as likely to experience depression.
The WHO noted that even with greater online connectivity, loneliness remains widespread, especially among young people and those in low and middle income countries. Experts stress that technology should help strengthen, not weaken, real human connections.
