Sanae Takaichi Meets Trump, Reaffirms Peace in the Taiwan Strait

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met U.S. President Donald Trump in Tokyo on October 28 for their first meeting. Trump called Japan “a top-level ally” and said he was willing to offer “any help Japan needs.” He praised Takaichi’s determination to increase Japan’s defense budget.

Both leaders also exchanged views on China and reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation, promote the vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” and sign agreements on trade and critical minerals to deepen bilateral relations.

Universal NT$10,000 Cash Handout Rules Announced, Teens Aged 13 and Above Must Claim Themselves

The Ministry of Digital Affairs announced that the “Everyone Together with Government Support” NT$10,000 cash handout will be transferred only to personal bank accounts to ensure safety and prevent fraud. People aged 13 and above must claim the payment themselves. Those aged 7 to under 13 may let their parents claim it or receive it on their own, while children under 7 must have their parents handle it.

People without a bank account need to bring their ID and collect the cash in person at a post office. The ministry reminds the public to follow information on the official website 10000.gov.tw and not to click suspicious links to avoid scams.

NVIDIA’s Taiwan Headquarters Faces Delays, Councillor Warns Taipei City of “Double Loss”

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in Washington on October 28 that he is unsure why the company’s Taiwan headquarters project has been delayed. The Taipei City Government is now negotiating with Shin Kong Life Insurance to terminate the contract for the Beitou Shilin Technology Park T17 and T18 sites.

A city councilor warned that if the talks fail and the Choumei site is instead given to NVIDIA, both the international badminton arena and Choumei Elementary School projects could be affected, causing a “Double Loss.” He urged Mayor Wayne Chiang to handle the issue carefully and explain the city’s future development plan.

High-Income Earners Living Paycheck to Paycheck as Lifestyle Inflation Grows

Goldman Sachs reported that even among Americans earning over 500,000 U.S. dollars a year, about 40 percent live paycheck to paycheck. The analysis shows that as income rises, spending also increases.

“Lifestyle inflation” turns luxury goods into daily necessities, making it harder for high earners to save money. Experts warn that inflation and social pressure are driving overspending, and without proper financial planning, even high salaries can quickly run out.

Secondhand Fashion on the Rise, Gen Z Makes Sustainability Stylish

Fast fashion provides cheap clothing but causes serious environmental and labor problems. The UN says around 92 million tons of textile waste are thrown away worldwide each year.

Circular fashion is growing to reduce waste through secondhand trading, upcycling, and clothing rentals. As Gen Z and young shoppers care more about values and the environment, secondhand fashion is becoming a popular way to show personal style.
