Public Opinion in the U.S. Supports Military Aid to Taiwan; Chip Industry Boosts Support Rate
According to the latest poll released by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute on June 29, if China invades Taiwan, 70% of American respondents support sending troops to help defend Taiwan, with support rising to 78% after learning that Taiwan is a semiconductor hub. The survey also shows that the American public is deeply concerned about China’s technology theft and human rights issues.
In addition, on the issue of using tariffs as a diplomatic tool, although there is a clear divide between the Democratic and Republican parties, most Americans still favor a free market, and impose tariffs only when necessary, on a temporary and limited basis.
第四則：壽險5月慘虧千億 三大金融業恐衰退
根據最新報導，台灣壽險業5月虧損達1,066億元，創歷史新高，拖累金融三業（銀行、證券、保險）的表現，使前五月獲利腰斬至2,328億元，全年恐面臨衰退風險。金管會已放寬準備金計提方式，以降低市場風險對獲利影響。
但市場仍憂慮匯率波動與避險成本上升，將進一步壓縮金融業獲利空間，配息能力也恐受挑戰。
Insurance Industry Loses Over 100 Billion in May; Three Major Financial Sectors May Face Recession
According to recent reports, Taiwan’s insurance industry incurred a loss of NT$106.6 billion in May, the largest on record. The loss dragged down the overall performance of the three major financial industries (banking, securities, and insurance), cutting total profits for the first five months in half to NT$232.8 billion, raising concerns that the full-year results may face a downturn. The famous eel restaurant “Fei Qian Wu” in Taipei unexpectedly closed on June 29, surprising many consumers. Operating for nearly 50 years, Fei Qian Wu was one of the four major eel rice restaurants in Taipei, attracting many diners who lined up to taste its offerings.
