TSMC Drives Taiwan Stocks Past 23,000 as AI Sector Draws Spotlight

NVIDIA’s H20 chip approval boosted tech stocks, while growing optimism ahead of TSMC’s July 17 investor meeting further lifted sentiment, pushing the index above the 23,000 mark.

AI-related and electronics stocks attracted strong inflows. TSMC shares closed at NT$1,130, playing a key role in pushing the index to a new high. The three major institutional investors bought NT$24.3 billion in total, including NT$13.9 billion from foreign investors, showing strong bullish momentum. However, ASML warned that tariffs and regulatory risks may add uncertainty going forward.

路透社報導,與中國有關的駭客組織於今年3月至6月加強並擴大對台灣半導體產業的網路攻擊,攻擊目標包含台積電、聯發科等約20家指標企業和投資分析師。

Chinese Hackers Step Up Cyberattacks on Taiwan’s Semiconductor Industry

Reuters reports that China-linked hacker groups intensified and expanded cyberattacks against Taiwan’s semiconductor sector between March and June this year. The attacks targeted around 20 key companies and investment analysts, including major firms such as TSMC and MediaTek.

Cybersecurity firm Proofpoint revealed that the hackers distributed malware by impersonating investment firms, aiming to steal sensitive information. As the U.S. tightens chip export controls on China, Taiwan’s semiconductor industry has become a focal point—facing growing cybersecurity threats.

台灣賓士總裁金恩中於7月16日表示,賓士期望全球貿易保持公平與開放,不希望政府對單一國家或產地給予特殊待遇,強調應考慮歐洲、日本、韓國等地的進口車。

他指出,自4月美國宣布對等關稅後,台灣車市銷售趨緩,賓士「水貨車」銷量明顯下滑。若美國降關稅至零,賓士將調整部分車款價格,但不會率先引發價格戰,強調需時間規劃因應市場需求。

On July 16, Kim Eun Choong, President of Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, said the company hopes for a fair and open global trade market. He urged that no special treatment be given to imports from just one country or region, and that imports from Europe, Japan, and South Korea should also be considered.

He noted that since the U.S. announced reciprocal tariffs in April, Taiwan’s car sales have slowed, with a clear drop in “gray market” Mercedes sales. If U.S. tariffs drop to zero, Mercedes will adjust some prices but won’t start a price war. He emphasized the need for time to plan and meet market demands.
