Ko Wen-je Faces 28-Year Sentence, Shouts "What Kind of World is This"
On August 7, the Taipei District Court heard the case against Ko Wen-je, the former chairman of the Taiwan People’s Party, regarding the Living Mall scandal. The prosecution is seeking a sentence of 28 years and 6 months. In court, Ko shouted fiercely at the prosecutor in court and threw a water cup, repeatedly exclaiming, “What kind of world is this?”
He pointed out that he has been in the Taipei detention center for 12 months, while both sides are still arguing about whether the profit-making charge is valid, criticizing the prosecution for detaining him without a proper investigation. Judge Chiang Chun-Yen said that detention must follow the standards set by the High Court, with changes only if the current situation is different.

The nuclear power referendum will be held on August 23, and the first public forum took place on August 7. The opposing representative, Taipower Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng, responded that restarting the plant requires a complete safety check, which is not easy, and that a vote should not happen before the scientific test results are ready.

"Snapping Back at Criticism" Could Be the Reason You're Missing That Promotion
Adam Grant, a psychologist at the Wharton School, points out that the way you respond to criticism often determines how far you can go in your career. He believes that being willing to listen to hard truths is one of the most underrated yet essential workplace skills.
Research shows that those who can accept constructive criticism tend to have a greater advantage in promotions.
