第一則:美中再延90天關稅緩衝 助攻年末採購檔期

美國總統川普8月11日宣布簽署行政命令,將對中國商品加徵高額關稅的暫停措施再延長90天,期限至11月10日。此舉讓中國商品關稅免於暴增至145%,並為美國零售業在年末採購季前爭取緩衝時間。

中國商務部也回應,將暫停對美國的非關稅反制措施。專家認為,雙方此番動作顯示正為今年秋天的「習川會」鋪路,力求達成合作協議。

US, China Extend Tariff Suspension for 90 Days to Assist Year-End Shopping Season

On August 11, US President Trump announced an executive order extending the suspension of high tariffs on Chinese goods for another 90 days, pushing the deadline to November 10. The move spares Chinese imports from a tariff hike to 145% and gives US retailers extra time before the year-end shopping season. 

China’s Ministry of Commerce responded by pausing its non-tariff countermeasures against the US. Experts say both sides are taking steps to pave the way for this fall’s “Trump-Xi Summit” in hopes of reaching a cooperation agreement.

南韓真相和解委員會主席朴宣映於8月11日發文,譴責台灣單方面取消會議,並批評台灣的行為是「外交上的失禮」。報導指出,台灣官員以APEC會議為由取消與韓方會面,但同日卻出席其他活動。

對此,駐韓國台北代表部回應,會議取消是因為APEC會議出現了需要立即處理的緊急狀況,並希望獲得理解。朴宣映則表示,台灣已永遠留下傲慢、無禮的印象。

South Korean Official Criticizes Taiwan's Diplomatic Rudeness, Leaving an Impression of Arrogance

On August 11, Park Sun-young, chair of South Korea’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, criticized Taiwan for unilaterally canceling a meeting, calling it an act of “diplomatic discourtesy.” Reports said Taiwanese officials canceled their meeting with the Korean side citing the APEC, but attended other events later that day. In response, 

The Taipei Mission in Korea said the cancellation was due to an urgent matter at the APEC meeting and asked for understanding. Park maintained that Taiwan had left a lasting impression of arrogance and rudeness.

第三則:內閣執政滿意度創新低 卓榮泰承諾必要時處理人事

S於8月11日公布最新民調,賴清德總統及行政院長卓榮泰的施政滿意度大幅下滑,僅有28%表達滿意,創歷次調查新低,且有55%感到不滿意。

對此,卓榮泰表示將深入檢討政治現象,並在必要時對重要人事進行調整,向國人說明及負責。他強調,政府將持續推動政策,並加強與立法機關的溝通,以提升民眾對施政的理解和支持。

Cabinet Approval Rating Hits New Low; Cho Jung-tai Promises to Handle Personnel Matters If Necessary

On August 11, TVBS released the latest poll showing a significant decline in the approval ratings for President Lai Ching-te and Premier Cho Jung-tai, with only 28% expressing satisfaction, marking a new low in the survey series, while 55% reported dissatisfaction. 

In response, Cho Jung-tai stated that he would conduct a thorough review of the political situation and make personnel adjustments if necessary, explaining and taking responsibility to the public. He emphasized that the government will continue to promote policies and enhance communication with the legislative branch to improve public understanding and support for its governance.

A study by Credit Suisse found that companies with female directors outperform their peers in terms of stock price and return on equity. This indicates that companies are placing a significant emphasis on gender diversity, not only to demonstrate social responsibility but also as a strategic choice to improve operational performance. 

However, the proportion of female directors in Taiwan is only 15.6%, lower than in other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, showing that there is still room for growth in gender diversity. If this can be actively improved in the future, it will further enhance international competitiveness.
