Millions of Workers to Benefit as Reduced Work and Rest Subsidies Expand to Nine Industries
The US has imposed MFN plus a 20% tariff on Taiwan, which could affect 40,000 to 50,000 workers. In response, Minister of Labor Hung Sun-han announced on August 13 that 15 billion NT dollars will be allocated to expand the “Employment Stability Measures” to nine industries. The measures will take effect retroactively from August 1 and cover 1.05 million insured workers.
The unpaid leave subsidy can be combined with the “Worker Recharging Program,” with a maximum payout of 17,210 NT dollars, while protecting workers’ employment rights. Experts note that public information on tariff negotiations can help workers adjust and maintain job stability.
