Public Service Pension Fund Faces Early Bankruptcy, Affecting 800,000 People
The latest actuarial report for the public service pension fund uses December 31, 2023 as its base date. It estimates that hidden liabilities have reached NT$2.6 trillion and will affect more than 800,000 active and retired members. Because new employees now use individual pension accounts and the old system has long been underfunded, the fund’s revenue and expenses are expected to turn negative between 2032 and 2033.
The fund for education workers may run out in 2042, and the fund for civil servants may go bankrupt in 2045. If the legislature passes the proposal to stop pension cuts, the bankruptcy timeline may move even earlier.
Trump’s Post Leaves Out Taiwan After Call With Xi Jinping
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a one-hour call on November 24. Chinese state media said the two leaders talked about Taiwan, but Trump’s post on social media mentioned only the Russia-Ukraine War, fentanyl, and trade in soybeans and other farm products, without any reference to Taiwan.
Foreign media suggested that Xi Jinping may have used the call to stress China’s position on Taiwan, while Trump focused on ending the Russia-Ukraine war and on the U.S.–China trade. Experts said the difference could worry U.S. allies, especially as tensions between China and Japan continue to rise.
Eighteen Cosmetic Products Found with Sudan Red, Suspected of Intentional Addition
The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration announced that it has detected the banned dye “Sudan Red” in cosmetics for the first time. The imported raw material from EHO Company was supplied to twelve companies, and at least eighteen products were affected, including well-known lip oils and cleansing balms.
The FDA found that the raw material contained Sudan Red at concentrations of more than one thousand ppm, and it believes the case may involve intentional adulteration. The agency will refer the company to the District Prosecutors Office for investigation. All violating products have been ordered off the shelves, and local health bureaus will impose fines and supervise the recall.
“AI workslop” Spreads, Experts Warn of a Corporate Disaster
Multinational companies have made repeated mistakes, and Deloitte Australia was forced to refund fees after using AI to produce incorrect reports. This incident shows that “AI workslop” is spreading quickly. Studies show that U.S. office workers receive an average of 15% of their work content from AI-generated documents that look smooth but are empty and increase the team’s workload.
Experts advise companies to build four lines of defense, including setting AI usage rules, training employees to use AI correctly, clarifying responsibility, and creating quality-control standards. They warn that these steps are necessary to prevent the illusion of efficiency from damaging workplace culture.
Trying Too Hard Backfires? EQ Expert Reveals How the Brain Traps Us
Psychological research shows that when the brain is under stress and tries hard to avoid mistakes, it actually becomes more likely to make them. When athlete Lolo Jones began thinking “don’t mess up” during her race, her prefrontal cortex interfered with the motor cortex, and this led to her performance collapse.
Similar situations happen in daily life, such as overthinking may hurt our performance, trying to relax but failing, or making more verbal mistakes when we are stressed. Experts say distraction and mental load weaken cognitive control and allow impulses and habits to take over.
Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.
Taiwan’s public service pension funds face rising hidden liabilities and may run out of money earlier than expected, affecting hundreds of thousands of people.
Trump and Xi Jinping’s call revealed a clear difference in focus, raising concerns among U.S. allies as Trump avoided mentioning Taiwan while Xi Jinping emphasized it.
Taiwan’s FDA uncovered banned Sudan Red in multiple cosmetic products and suspects intentional adulteration, leading to recalls and a formal investigation.
AI-generated “workslop” is spreading fast, and experts warn that without clear rules and human oversight, companies risk damaging productivity and workplace culture.
When stress makes us overthink, our brain’s control systems can backfire, causing mistakes and letting impulses take over.
In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
