TSMC Accuses Former Executive of Leaking Secrets as Internal Risks Draw New Attention

TSMC has officially filed a lawsuit against its former senior vice president, Wei-Jen Lo, accusing him of copying business documents before retirement and then joining Intel, with a “high possibility” of leaking company secrets. The incident has raised doubts about TSMC’s internal controls, especially since an engineer leaked 2-nanometer technology earlier this year.

As the global chip war heats up, experts say that Taiwanese companies must strengthen the management of employee movement, because even a small breach may affect industry competitiveness.

Nearly 70% of Workers Earn Below the Average Salary, While Finance Leads the Nation

The Directorate General of Budget released last year’s salary data for employed workers, showing that the median annual salary was NT546,000, the biggest increase since 2013. However, 68.75% of workers still earned less than the average annual salary of NT732,000. The finance and insurance sector ranked first with a median salary of NT1.106 million, followed by the electricity and gas supply sector and the information and communications industries.

Experts say that salary growth mainly came from the strong performance of AI and HPC-related industries last year. Hsinchu City had the highest median annual salary at NT902,000, showing the strong influence of the tech and finance sectors.

U.S. and Japan Leaders Talk Again as Japan Reaffirms Its “Taiwan Statement” Position

After China’s President Xi Jinping made a rare phone call to U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump called Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the same day and stressed the close cooperation between the United States and Japan.

China asked Takaichi to withdraw her earlier statement that a “Taiwan contingency could become a survival-threatening situation for Japan,” but Japan’s cabinet meeting officially confirmed that its position has not changed. Japan also reaffirmed that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are essential to Japan’s security and to the stability of the international community.

Students from Hualien Girls' High School Transform Old Military Base with App, Innovative Tour Draws Big Crowds

A group of students from Hualien Girls’ High School used the “Popworld” app to turn the Hualien Agriculture Good Base, a former military site, into an immersive puzzle-solving tour. They broke military history and local culture into mission tasks, allowing an event planned for 30 people to attract more than 50 sign-ups and reach over 200,000 views on social media.

The student team plans to keep developing an unmanned version to help the base build a long-term and sustainable tour model, showing how the new generation can use creativity to bring new life to a local community.

Is Gen Z Misunderstood? Experts Say They Are Not “Selfish”

Korean workplaces often criticize Gen Z for being too “individualistic,” but experts say the real problem is confusing “individualism” with “egoism.” Individualism values the rights of both oneself and others, while egoism ignores the team.

Because Korean companies have long preferred a collective culture, young workers who refuse extra tasks or insist on leaving work on time are seen as selfish. Experts stress that all generations have been influenced by individualism, but today’s young people simply express it more openly.

Let’s wrap up today’s episode. We’ve learned about some important events happening around the world.

  • Experts warn that TSMC’s lawsuit shows how even small leaks in employee movement can threaten competitiveness as the global chip war intensifies.

  • Experts say Taiwan’s salary growth is driven by booming AI-related industries, but most workers still earn below the average, showing a widening gap across sectors and regions.

  • Japan reiterated its unchanged “Taiwan statement” stance despite China’s pressure, stressing with the U.S. that Taiwan Strait stability is vital for security.

  • Students from Hualien Girls’ High School transformed a former military base into a hit puzzle tour using the “Popworld” app, proving how youth creativity can revive local spaces.

  • Experts say Gen Z is not selfish at all—people are simply mistaking healthy individualism for egoism in a workplace still shaped by collective culture.

In the next episode, we will together explore the recent hot news with you in the morning. Don’t forget to come back. Have a nice day and hear me next time. Bye.
